Why you should use the SOCS News Update

What is it?
The News Update feature allows you to email news headlines to readers who subscribe to this feature. Readers can subscribe or unsubscribe at any time—so participants are those who are truly interested.

Why use it?
The News Update is a great way to:

  • send a “blast email” for quick notification of events such as school closing due to inclement weather.
  • regularly remind readers of deadlines, teacher conferences or school activities.
  • notify readers when your site is updated with new information. The Update includes “teasers” that link readers directly to the article and the web site.

Who can send it?
News Update is a user access privilege that you must be given. If others have this access privilege as well, you’ll want to coordinate who sends out News Updates and how frequently.

If you’re not already using this feature, try it out and then check your traffic reports to track usage. Schools typically see a spike in site traffic two to three days following a News Update.

For instructionns on sending out a News Update, go to the Help Center when you are logged into your SOCS Toolbar and then select Training Guides. Scroll down the the "News Update Resources".
